Zack Smith
Outdoor Guide
Zack "Bones" Smith grew up in Ashland, OR and was introduced to rock climbing by his dad when he was 13 in Yosemite using webbing for a harness, hip belays, and Vans skateboard shoes. His techniques, safety protocols and equipment choices evolved and he began his guiding career in Moab, UT in 2000. Zack has established first ascents in Argentine Patagonia, Chilean Patagonia, Kichatna Spires and The Ruth Gorge in Alaska, The Bugaboos in Canada, The Black Canyon in Colorado, and Indian Creek in Utah. He has climbed on six different continents up to 5.13+ and V11 boulders but accepts that that level of climbing will never happen again. Outside of climbing Zack has owned small businesses, posed as "The Marlboro Man" for a commercial, worked as a rigger in film and television, and has been a professional tandem paragliding pilot.
These days Zack is equally excited to introduce new people to the sport of rock climbing or use his 30+ years of experience to help coach the next generation of crushers. Through a lifetime of meaningful play Zack feels strongly that the physical and mental challenges, the self discipline, and just simply unleashing your "inner-monkey" through climbing can positively translate to all aspects of life.
He lives with his wife, four year old daughter, and dog in White Salmon.
