Athena Ghiz-Moss is a true Gorge local. Born in Hood River and raised in the Gorge, Athena took up windsurfing at the ripe age of five, then picked up her first windsurfing sponsorship as an eighth grader. As a teenager, she added snowboarding and climbing to her quiver of outdoor activities.
Athena spent ten years of her childhood on ranches on the Washington side of the Gorge where her family raised Arabian horses, Bhrama cows, chickens, goats, peacocks, turkeys and a ferret named Napoleon. The menagerie meant that, when she wasn’t playing in the wind, snow or on the rocks, she spent a whole lot of time feeding, shoveling stalls, building/repairing fences, horseback riding, and handling other surprises that arose–and that her whole 2nd grade class went to her house for a school field trip–she was not stoked.
Athena still holds an undying love for the Gorge, its beauty, its history and all the outdoor recreation it has to offer. She spend her rare free moments camping, hiking, windsurfing, snowboarding, playing guitar, singing, getting tattooed, going to shows and playing them, making random art, reading, spending time with her beloved tribe of family and friends, hanging out with her beautiful babes and her perfect puppy, who responds to “Perfect Puppy” and “Therapist.”
